Un disco che celebra la carriera e il ritorno, a distanza di 6 anni dall’ultimo lavoro, del quartetto calabrese – considerata la band che ha catapultato le sonorità e gli strumenti della tradizione calabrese nella world music con un nuovo sound inconfondibile – in cui sono contenuti i brani rimasterizzati del famoso live “Tamburi e Parole” del tour 2010.
Lo stesso giorno, il disco verrà presentato in occasione del Musicconnect Italy di Pistoia.
Oggi esce “Live 22th Anniversary”, progetto discografico – prodotto da Giuseppe Marasco per Italysona – che celebra i 22 anni di carriera e il ritorno, a distanza di 6 anni, dei QuartAumentata, quartetto calabrese in continua evoluzione in un caleidoscopio di sonorità che lambisce il folk, reggae, jazz, blues, rock e funk, noto per avercatapultato le sonorità e gli strumenti della tradizione calabrese nella world music con un nuovo sound inconfondibile. Oggi stesso, il quartetto presenta il nuovo lavoro – disponibile in due versioni: in digitale con tutte le 17 tracce del live (ASCOLTA QUI), e in vinile in edizione limitata in cui sono contenuti 11 brani – in occasione del Musicconnect Italy di Pistoia, il primo e più grande meeting professionale italiano totalmente dedicato alla World music.
Il disco, tra temi intimisti e storie di vita quotidiana, narrati alternando l’uso dell’italiano a quello del dialetto calabrese, è tratto dallo storico live “Tamburi e Parole” del tour 2010 che ha consentito alla band – formata Paolo Sofia (voce),Peppe Platani (basso), Salvatore Gullace (chitarra, mandolino, Bouzouki), Massimo Cusato (percussioni, batteria) – di esibirsi in oltre 100 palchi di tutta Italia condividendo la scena con musicisti eccezionali.
Un lungo percorso che ha orientato la loro musica verso la riscoperta delle tradizioni musicali calabresi e la creazione di nuovi brani, contaminandoli di atmosfere e ritmi della World Music: “Il nostro primo incontro artistico risale al 1998 in occasione della stesura delle musiche del progetto teatrale “Gruppo Spontaneo” – raccontano i quattro musicisti calabresi -. Il manifesto della band è quello di trasformare il patrimonio musicale calabrese in un’entità viva in cui identificarsi, e rendere questo messaggio alla portata delle nuove generazioni. Un progetto che rispecchia le caratteristiche dei componenti del gruppo provenienti da diverse esperienze musicali che conferiscono al repertorio un sound originale. Nel corso degli anni c’è stata un’evoluzione graduale pur mantenendo il progetto iniziale. Si è passati dal primo disco dai contesti più teatrali, a “Sirene e Naviganti” (2012) un’analogia tra il viaggio di Ulisse e il viaggiare contemporaneo, che ha visto la partecipazione di musicisti di alto livello come Dado Moroni, Eric Daniel e Michele Ascolese; e artisti di calibro come Ivana Spagna, Saule e Margarida Guerreiro, nota cantante di Fado portoghese. Oggi vogliamo condividere un altro traguardo, 22 anni di musica di piazze, di sorrisi, di corse e anche di stop, ma sempre presenti con la voglia di creare la nostra musica. Questo vinile vuole celebrare questo percorso: all’interno i brani di un live a cui siamo molto legati, “Tamburi e Parole”, registrato nel tour 2010.”
Il lato A del vinile si apre con Bella Balla, brano che racconta come il ballo liberi dalla pesantezza delle cose, leghi l’individuo alla comunità, favorisca salute e chiarezza di spirito, ed elevi l’anima. Poi Santu ‘Nsertu: l’indovino è un antichissimo mestiere e forse meritava di essere detto: santu ‘nzertu. Si prosegue con Fimmana che descrive come una storia d’amore possa sì finire, ma non sempre si finisce anche di amare. In Lisciu Comu A Ll’ogghju “se non tutto scorre liscio, tutto scorre comunque. Ne La morte apparente il risveglio da morto per attaccamento alle cose belle della vita! Vola Vola: “Vola amore mio, vai dove vuoi e non perderti mai”.
Nel lato B, dopo il brano d’aperturaNon mi vogghjiu maritari, in cui si parla della pressione sociale che spesso obbliga a fare delle scelte non sempre coerenti con i propri desideri. Ci adattiamo alle aspettative del mondo in cui siamo immersi, arriva Cococo’, brano in cui si descrive come, talvolta, anche l’andare controcorrente a tutti i costi può essere a sua volta una “moda”, quando lo si fa per puro spirito di contraddizione, senza un solido convincimento e senza precisi riferimenti culturali. Poi ‘A storia è glià: il popolo calabrese è stato da sempre uno dei popoli italiani più oppressi, ma lamentarsi, piangersi addosso e dare sempre la colpa agli altri non può rappresentare una soluzione al problema. Vai: Lontano dagli occhi, lontano dal cuore! Quando una storia non funziona, la cosa giusta da fare è, tenersi lontani l’uno dall’altro! Il disco chiude con ‘Mbiviti Nattru, brano che racconta come il peso della vita sia insopportabile e non sempre è facile trovare in sé la forza di affrontarlo, perché solo i Santi possono venire a contatto col male senza contagiarsi. Ogni tanto, allora, bisogna saper anche “staccare la spina”, per poter riprendere la giusta prospettiva.
Nella versione digitale sono presenti, inoltre, i brani: ‘Mbiviti Nattru (extended version); Lu Surtanu; Balla Petru; U mundu balla; Ostinatamente, Nui Simu; Comu mi piaci.

Note biografiche: il gruppo dei QuartAumentata nasce nel 1998 dall’incontro artistico di Paolo Sofia, Peppe Platani, Salvatore Gullace e Massimo Cusato, quattro musicisti calabresi che decidono di condividere le proprie esperienze artistiche proveniente da diversi mondi musicali (jazz, pop, classica). L’occasione dell’incontro è la stesura delle musiche del progetto teatrale “Gruppo Spontaneo”. Il nome della band trae origine dall’intervallo musicale di quarta aumentata, molto presente nella cultura musicale mediterranea e che caratterizza inconfondibilmente il loro sound. Forti dell’esperienza teatrale, iniziano a comporre il loro primo album con l’obiettivo di riscoprire le tradizioni musicali calabresi, ma rielaborate e contaminate da melodie, atmosfere e ritmi della WorldMusic. Già nel primo lavoro discografico, A notti e fatta dinnu (1999), si individuano i punti salienti del loro progetto culturale: trasformare il patrimonio musicale calabrese in un’entità viva, in cui riconoscere le proprie radici, e rendere questo messaggio musicale fruibile anche dalle nuove generazioni. La ricerca di un equilibrio tra tradizione e sperimentazione è ancora più evidente nel secondo cd dei QuartAumentata: Navigando(2002). Si moltiplicano, intanto, le partecipazioni a rassegne e festival importanti (una fra tutte il WOMAD di Palermo) e le apparizioni televisive e radiofoniche: Rai 2, La vita in diretta; Radio Rai, Notturno Italiano. Nel 2005 esce il loro terzo cd, Abballamu cu ventu. A sorprendere il pubblico sono la vitalità dei ritmi e la magia dei testi, che si richiamano a luoghi e a scenari, dove s’innestano temi e problematiche attuali, raccontate con ironia. Ma il 2005 è, soprattutto, l’anno di una collaborazione e di un evento destinato a lasciare una traccia indelebile nella storia del gruppo: i QuartAumentata vengono selezionati, come esponenti della cultura musicale calabrese, per accompagnare Jovanotti, sui palchi di Cosenza e di Locri, nel mega-concerto di Capodanno “La vertigine non è paura di cadere ma voglia di volare”. Il risultato è sorprendente: il pubblico è incantato dalla “tarantella funk”, che scaturisce dall’incrocio tra i ritmi e le melodie dei QuartAumentata e l’interpretazione originale di Lorenzo Cherubini. Si allunga l’elenco dei successi del quartetto con la partecipazione al Mantova Music Festival, al MEI FEST di Faenza, all’ Handicap Day sul palco di Piazza del Popolo a Roma. Il Tour 2006 è una lunga serie di concerti e partecipazioni, tra i quali spicca l’importante collaborazione con Niccolò Fabi nell’ambito del Festival “Ai Confini del sud. Musica etnica e dintorni”. Nel 2007 esce U mundu balla. in cui il gruppo si avvale di illustri collaborazioni artistiche, come quella di Francesca Tourè dei Delta V, e di rivisitazioni originali di diversi artisti, troviamo il pop, il rap, il tango, il funk, una mescolanza di generi che si coniuga con la tradizione creando il sound made in Calabria dei QuartAumentata. U Mundu balla è anche il titolo del Tour 2007, uno dei più densi di concerti degli ultimi anni per la band, che da giugno a settembre si muove incessantemente arrivando a includere un’importante tappa “oltreoceano”: sono tra i protagonisti, infatti, dell’Italian Fest di Milwaukee – Wisconsin –, una delle manifestazioni più rilevanti dedicate alla cultura italiana negli Stati Uniti. Nel 2008 si esibiscono in occasione della Rassegna della canzone d’autore di Sanremo organizzata dal Club Tenco. Nel novembre 2008, il gruppo è stato tra i protagonisti di una manifestazione svoltasi negli Stati Uniti per promuovere la cultura musicale made in Italy: live a Boston con l’“Ostinatamente Tour”, nell’ambito della rassegna di musica etnica, Respiro della terra, su iniziativa del Consolato Generale italiano negli Usa, per poi replicare il 21 a New York. Il 20 giugno 2009 il gruppo viene invitato al Premio De Andrè interpretando due canzoni del cantautore.
Il 31 luglio 2009 esce il disco dedicato a De Andrè, Dai Diamanti Non Nasce niente. Un lavoro che rappresenta per il gruppo l’ennesimo tentativo di confrontarsi con linguaggi, generi e tematiche diversi, accostando la sonorità del dialetto calabrese alla musica di De Andrè, Nel 2010 sono vincitori della finale regionale del concorso Primo Maggio Tutto L’anno. Nell’ambito dello stesso concorso vengono selezionati nella rosa dei tre finalisti nazionali e ricevono dalla trasmissione di Radio Due “Moby Dick” il riconoscimento quale formazione musicale e brano più interessante tra i 12 finalisti nazionali. La band è stata coinvolta anche in progetti cinematografici con la cura della colonna sonora per i film “Tornare indietro” (2002) e “Aspromonte” (2012). Dal 2010, ad oggi escono altri tre album: 2010 Natali i na vota (Ass. Cult. Quartaumentata), nel 2012 Sirene e Naviganti (Sony Classical) e nel 2015 il The Best Of Quartaumentata(Icompany).
